Weekly-ish Devlog - Alpha 6


This update was focused on finalizing the Card displays and adding the dialogue system. We have officially finished some of my least favorite systems to implement in a game, and hopefully being over this hump will improve my motivation a bit.

Release Notes:

  • Thumbnail
    • I don't think it works yet, still looking into this, but there should be a non-godot thumbnail image for windows and linux now.
  • Card cut for tech tier-0
    • Removed a few cards to be ready for what is unlocked when you first start the game. Unlock system is partially implemented, but there is no logic to unlock new things yet, that'll come later
    • Added new icons for all current cards (missed the enemy cards, will likely do that next patch)
  • Better card UI
    • part 2 of card UI upgrade
    • cards now feel more finished and are aesthetically more in-line with the art style of the rest of the game
    • Hopefully things are feeling more like a coherent experience now
  • Dialogue
    • Added a dialogue system and some basic tutorials to help new players with some of the features
    • You can reset the tutorial from the settings menu under "Controls"

Known Bugs:

  • Web version is a bit jank still
  • Lag spikes probably still exist, let me know if/when/where you run into these
  • Thumbnail is a bit borked still, didn't want to get stuck on it, but I'll keep hacking away and maybe find the solution soon

Next up:

Next release will be aiming at making resource feel better to collect, and making the ear redemption system a bit more logical.
